We have an opening for an Sr Environmental Specialist - EHS based
in our Mount Crawford, VA manufacturing facility.
This position is responsible for the development and execution of
programs to ensure that the Company provides a safe workplace for
employees and minimizes impacts to the environment. This position
will primarily lead environmental program compliance with Danone
requirements and all federal, state, and local regulations. The
incumbent will assist in animation and implementation of a
sustainable program at the plant and drive environmental, health
and safety (EHS) performance improvements and efficiencies. This
position will participate in the Danone North America EHS
Leadership Network.The incumbent is successful through strong
leadership, vision, and effective management and ensure these goals
in a professional atmosphere that enhances Company economic
viability.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the Sr. EHS Manager in the development and implementation
of environmental tools, programs, standards, policies, procedures,
and best practice techniques, cost effectively, and efficiently at
the plant based on regulatory and internal requirements. Research
existing and emerging regulations and l ead the implementation new
environmental regulatory requirements;
provide support for compliance
and control measures that reduce or eliminate risks Assist with the
preparation, maintenance, and compliance with federal, state, and
local agency environmental reporting and permitting, and Company
EHS Standards.
Participate in EHS compliance and management system inspections;
Develop and recommend solutions to eliminate pollution and
environmental hazards
Support animation of the WISE 2 safety program to build a proactive
safety culture and improve performance Serve as plant lead for the
Zero Waste to Landfill Program and support other sustainability
initiatives. Assist with emergency response, evacuation
planning,
investigation, and escalation of environmental incidents; Determine
root cause of incidents and provide support of corrective and
preventative action plans. Manage data collection and analysis
of
environmental and sustainability metrics and reports including;
injury and illness, air, waste, energy and water data Assist with
contract and contractor management such as for waste management,
wastewater O&M, and CapEx projects to ensure environmental
compliance Serve as the plant Administrator of Sphera and other
environmental data management systems Participate or lead EHS
projects to support environmental compliance, conservation, best
practices, lean, and six sigma Assist in establishing and leading
environmental committees and engagement campaigns; participate in
safety committees and safety awareness programs Assist with the
interface with local, state and federal agencies. Assist with the
organization of EHS audits and participate on audit teams,
including WISE 2 Audits, GREEN Audits, environmental compliance,
and sustainability audits Assist in creation and delivery of EHS
training programs and requirements Assist with management of EHS
monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting
Lead creation and deployment ofsite level EHS communications About
you Education and Experience: Bachelors or Masters in
Environmental, Engineering, Chemistry, or related field
preferred
5+ years of relevant EHS industry work experience may be considered
in lieu of a degree Must be knowledgeable with multi-media
environmental regulations including RCRA, CAA, CWA, NPDES, SPCC,
and RMP 3+ years of manufacturing experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong verbal and written
communication skills. Exceptional leadership skills and ability to
mentor and motivate (a real passion for EHS) Effective management
skills. Serves as a change agent to drive process improvements and
cultural change Creates alignment Must be adaptable and flexible.
Works well under pressure, effectively handles conflict, strict
deadlines and multiple tasks Ability to assess and implement EHS
best practices. Excellent organization, recordkeeping and
