SUMMARY

Set up mechanical and hydraulic production machines and equipment including, but not limited to, metal fabricating machines, material handling system, automated lubrication systems, lock seamers, hydrowelders, spot welders, presses, headers, cartonizers, head/bushing machines, tube benders, cut offs, flex mills, expander/sizers, etc. to meet production schedules. Performs multiple set ups to ensure efficient operation for several machine operators working simultaneously.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Sets Up all equipment in department as assigned.

Uses blueprints and route cards to set up assigned equipment.

Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to locate causes of malfunctions.

Dismantles machines and equipment to gain access to problem area.

Reports all safety malfunctions as well as near hits, and injuries to supervisor immediately.

Performs minor machine repairs including preventative maintenance.

Starts machines and equipment to test operation following repair.

Assists Mechanical Engineers and Maintenance Technicians to modify sketches or computer generated designs of machine components such as hydraulic system and drive mechanism.

Assists in training of Operators and Set up Operators.

Performs quality control checks including first and last piece inspection to ensure all products are made according to blueprint specifications.

Operate equipment to manufacture parts whenever all required set ups have been completed.

Completes annual updates of OSHA required training as assigned by supervisor.

Reports any safety malfunctions, near hits, and/or injuries to supervisor immediately.

Maintains high standard of housekeeping in the department.

Completes other duties as assigned such as hand welding, material handling, etc.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Assignment for this position is typically made to the pipe bending or stamping press areas. Incumbent must be capable of setting up all machines in assigned area to be qualified as Set up Operator A.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Must be able to set up and operate all pieces of equipment on the line or in the department.

Must demonstrate thorough knowledge of troubleshooting and preventive maintenance issues for assigned equipment.

Demonstrated ability to hand weld (where applicable to department function).

Must be able to read blueprints and use and interpret measuring gages as needed to ensure products meet specifications.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to operate computers/automated data entry systems.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form including product blue prints.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Forklift certification

Walker hand welding certification (where applicable to departmental function).

The noise level is usually loud.

Personal protective equipment is required including but not limited to, hearing protection, eye protection, protective sleeves, and foot protection (steel toe shoes ).
