Summary:
Set up and operate mechanical and hydraulic production machines and
equipment including, but not limited to, metal fabricating
machines, material handling system, automated lubrication systems,
lock seamers, hydrowelders, spot welders, presses, headers,
cartonizers, head/bushing machines, tube benders, cut offs, flex
mills, expander/sizers, etc. to meet production schedules. Capable
of setting up and operating several similar or related pieces of
equipment within the department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other
duties may be assigned.
Sets up equipment in department as assigned by changing tooling,
adjusting tooling to correct clearances and specifications, and
making other necessary adjustments.
Uses blueprints and route cards to set up assigned equipment.
Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to locate
causes of malfunctions.
Dismantles machines and equipment to gain access to problem
area.
Performs minor machine repairs including preventative
maintenance.
Starts machines and equipment to test operation following
repair.
Performs quality control checks including first and last piece
inspection to ensure all products are made according to blueprint
specifications.
Operate equipment to manufacture parts whenever all required set
ups have been completed.
Completes annual updates of OSHA required training as assigned by
supervisor.
Maintains high standard of housekeeping in the department.
Completes other duties as assigned such as hand welding, material
handling, etc.
Work within team environment to achieve company goals and
objectives.
Checks that safety guards and switches are in place and in good
working condition. Reports all safety malfunctions immediately to
supervisor.
Performs all necessary paperwork such as machine load card data,
written production and inventory tickets, time sheets, quality
control data, first and last piece inspection and other data as
required.
Completes annual review of OSHA required safety training as
assigned by supervisor.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Places set up and operator scrap in designated containers and
document as required. Delivers "overrun" parts to appropriate
location and document.
Completes job cards as requested by supervisor.
Maintains a high standard of housekeeping in the department.
Monitors material supplies at assigned work station to ensure
smooth product flow.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be able to set up and operate at least 2 pieces of equipment
in assigned area.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 6 months previous manufacturing experience required.
Typically required to complete 90-day probationary (initial
employment) period. Set Up Operator job classification may be
designated prior to completing 90 days employment if employee
demonstrates ability to set up and operate assigned equipment
independently.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,
operating instructions, blueprints, maintenance instructions, and
procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability
to interact cooperatively with supervision and co-workers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of
measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar
graphs. Ability to use and interpret measuring gauges.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out
instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability
to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in
standardized situations.

protection, and foot protection (steel toe shoes).
