Position Summary Information









General Information

Conference Services at James Madison University is accepting applications for Temporary Summer Housing/Operations Staff. This position assists summer groups and operational needs after regular Conference Services hours as well as works out of the Conference Services Office during the evening shift 5:30p-12m. One staffer stays in a designated dorm room during overnight on-call shifts.

These positions will work night shifts Sunday - Saturday from May 24th until July 27th, 4 to 5 days per 7-day week. On-Call shifts on campus; sleeping in a dorm room (Midnight - 8:00 a.m.)



  • Training Days: May 15th - May 24th, the shift will be 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (hours depend on summer class schedule)

  • Starting May 20th, 5:30 p.m. - Midnight Sunday - Saturday (working 4 nights out of a 7-day week)











    Duties and Responsibilities



    • Handle basic office operations during evening shifts

    • One person serves on-call roughly 3 nights per 2-week work schedule

    • Respond to any lockouts in dorms, maintenance, housekeeping issues, etc.

    • Assist conference & administrative coordinators with tasks while on night shift

    • Perform evening rounds in conference guest dorms

      Required:


      • Exhibit multi-tasking and time-management skills

      • Possess strong customer service skills

      • Function well in a fast-paced office environment

      • Take initiative and work well with others in a team setting

      • Available to work May 15th - August 6th











        Condition(s) of Employment

        These are part-time temporary positions with no benefits.

        Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

        The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report contains information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures, protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters of importance related to security and safety. The report includes statistics for the most recent three-year period of reported crimes that have occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by JMU or its affiliates; and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus.

        The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report includes campus housing fire statistics for the most recent three-year period, a description of each on-campus student housing facility fire safety system, the number of fire drills held during the previous calendar year, policies or rules on portable electrical appliances, smoking, and open flames in student housing; and procedures for student housing evacuation in the event of fire along with other fire safety information.
