Position Summary Information

General Information
The JMU School of Professional & Continuing Education (SPCE) Professional Development team is seeking to add a qualified instructor to its noncredit human resources training team.

We seek a qualified individual interested in teaching the SHRM Certification Preparation program.

The JMU SPCE SHRM Certification Preparation program is a noncredit program intended for human resources professionals seeking the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credentials. The content is aligned with the current SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (SHRM BASK). The curriculum, slides, and other instructional materials are provided to the instructor. This course meets for 36 live instructional hours, usually in 12 three-hour sessions. The cohorts meet twice per week, e.g., Tuesdays and Thursdays (actual days and times can vary between cohorts but will be the same for a specific cohort). The live instruction is complemented by an online learning portal that provides students with learning support. Typical class size ranges from 5-12.

The successful candidate may be hired to teach future online and/or in-person cohorts.

The first opportunity is to co-teach the SHRM Certification Preparation program in-person in downtown Harrisonburg meeting on Mondays and Wednesdays between February 6 - March 15 from 1:30-4:30pm EST. This cohort's class sessions will meet in the Ice House at 127 W Bruce St. Classes may meet online in the event of inclement weather. The co-teaching arrangement means sharing instructional duties with our current SHRM Certification Preparation instructor. Traditionally, this arrangement means one instructor teaches the first three weeks of the program and the co-instructor teachers the second three weeks, though this can be negotiated between the successful candidate and the current instructor.

Future online and in-person cohorts will be coordinated with the instructor team. In addition to the in-person program, JMU SPCE will offer two 100% online evening options in 2023. One cohort begins in mid-March and another is scheduled in early October. These are usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9pm EST.

The stipend for teaching the full program is $2000 and for co-teaching half of the program is $1000. Payment is provided in full upon completion of teaching or co-teaching a cohort.

JMU SPCE SHRM programs are offered to the general public. The training programs serve professionals and organizations seeking to develop and deepen their knowledge of human resource principles. Participants in the JMU SPCE SHRM training programs have a range of professional experiences. Participants also come from a range of industries and from a range of different organizational levels. JMU SPCE seeks instructors whose professional and life experiences enhance the learning experience for our diverse adult learners.

JMU SPCE's SHRM program website is here: https://www.jmu.edu/pce/programs/all/shrm/index.shtml

Duties and Responsibilities
The instructor is primarily responsible for delivering live instruction. The curriculum, slides, and PDF materials are supplied to the instructor, and the instructor is encouraged to supplement the curriculum with their own experience and expertise.

The live instruction is complemented by an online learning portal that provides students with significant learning support.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants will hold a current certification as a SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP. Preferably, they have significant years of experience working in human resource roles. Preferably, applicants have experience as a trainer or demonstrate interest and aptitude for training professionals.

Condition(s) of Employment
The stipend for teaching the full program is $2000 and for co-teaching half of the program is $1000. The stiped is provided in full upon completion of teaching or co-teaching a cohort in a one-time payment. There are no benefits associated with this employment.

JMU PCE reserves the right to cancel a course due to insufficient enrollments in which case no stipend will be paid. Also, please note that this memorandum does not carry with it a guarantee or priority for future employment with the University.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

E-Verify Notice: After accepting employment, new hires are required to complete an I-9 form and present documentation of their identity and eligibility to work in the United States. James Madison University uses the E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization.
