General Information
The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) is comprised of the
departments of Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geology and
Environmental Science, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics and
Astronomy, as well as collaborative offerings in Biotechnology,
Data Analytics, and three Environmental programs. CSM is a vibrant
college that places undergraduate student learning as its primary
focus in which our students learn by doing. Faculty are
passionate
about using high impact pedagogies and providing research
experiences for undergraduates, offering high quality experiences
for graduate students in a limited number of programs, as well as
cross-disciplinary collaborations in teaching and research. Four of
CSM's five academic units host NSF REU (research experience for
undergraduates) grants. Eighty percent of our students participate

CSM is deeply committed to student, staff, and faculty diversity,

of Biology is funded by an HHMI Inclusive Excellence grant to
support the development of the Biocommons, a student community
space for academic and personal growth. CSM recently received an
NSF S-STEM grant to support 22 Pell eligible high-academic
achievement majors.
This position will report to the CSM Dean and is a 12-month
Instructional Faculty position.
Duties and Responsibilities
The College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) at James Madison
University (JMU) is committed to the success and professional
development of the faculty, staff and students housed in the
college. We invite applications for an Associate Dean for Faculty
Support and Development who will support the professional growth
and development of our faculty. This 12-month Instructional Faculty
hire will have the vision to promote and develop transdisciplinary
department and college level initiatives. In addition, this
position will support faculty mentorship and reinforce programmatic
efforts to engage students in research. The successful candidate
will report to the Dean and work collaboratively with CSM
leadership including the new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
Director and Student Success Coordinator (search in progress) and
with colleagues in units across campus.
The specific job responsibilities of the Associate Dean will
include: Developing or improving existing faculty mentoring
programs within the college that complement efforts of CSM units
and outside resources such as the Center for Faculty Innovation;
Leading the implementation of faculty-oriented action items in the
college's DEI Action Plan; Assisting faculty in creating career
plans appropriate within their discipline; Collaborating with the
Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship to assist faculty in
capitalizing on external programmatic funding opportunities
involving student engagement in research; Supporting faculty
efforts to develop new curricula, programming, and scholarship, in
alignment with CSM mission and priorities; and other duties as
assigned.
