The Counseling Center (CC) at James Madison University (JMU) is accepting applications for a Psychiatric Support Clinician.

The Psychiatric Support Clinician is a 32 hours per week, 12 months per year (Quasi-full time non-teaching) with benefits, continuing position that will provide nursing support with the psychiatric and counseling team to students, in collaboration with and under the medical direction of the supervising psychiatrist.

The CC has a commitment to diversity and multi-culturally competent professionals with the awareness, knowledge and skills required to work effectively with a diverse clientele and to enhance the CCs diversity mission.

This position will include assessment, formulation of nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Critical thinking in decision making will be utilized to provide the most appropriate care for students. This position will also serve as a psychiatric resource to front office and clinical staff, and provide consultation and education to students, parents, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities associated with this role include:

* Consulting and educatingJMUstudents, parents, faculty, and staff on psychiatric service questions. * Collaborating with counseling clinicians on psychiatric needs and triaging urgency of new referrals. * Collaborating with psychiatric clinicians on clinical assessment, treatment concerns, and provision of psychoeducation. * Collaborating with external providers to relay and obtain pertinent health information. * Supporting case management needs of students transitioning to community care.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

* Associates degree in science, applied science or science of nursing * Be licensed or license eligible as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia * Previous experience in a related health care setting * Comply with the requirements for continuing education defined by the Virginia Board of Nursing * Interest and/or experience with the psychological and developmental needs of the young adult population

Preferred qualities of the candidate include:

* Bachelors degree in nursing * 3-5 years of clinical practice providing general or psychiatric services to individuals with serious mental illness * 3-5 years of clinical practice to individuals in an outpatient setting * interest and/or experience in collaborating with other multidisciplinary professionals * interest and/or experience in working with individuals in training programs (e.g. practicum, internships) * Well-developed clinical skills * Collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect and trust towards colleagues * Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of clinical work while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships * Self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals * Demonstrated commitment to multicultural competency * Excellent oral and written communication skills
