The James Madison University Orientation Office is accepting
applications for an Assistant Director of Orientation Operations.
The Assistant Director is a pivotal member of the Orientation staff
who leads and provides direction to all aspects of the operational
components important to matriculate new students into the
university. The Assistant Director is responsible for the
Orientation reservation system, VisualZen, which is integrated to
communicate with multiple JMU information technology systems to
ensure the accurate flow of student data. In this role, the
Assistant Director provides training and technical assistance to
the Orientation Office and campus partners while also
problem-solving issues occurring in the student user experience.
Critical to the success of the new student transition, the
Assistant Director of Orientation Operations is also responsible
for overseeing the department's customer service operations and
supervising a full-time staff member in a fast-paced
The Assistant Director of Orientation Operations serves as the
leader for Orientation systems to successfully integrate new
students into the JMU community by administering, managing and
implementing large and complex orientation business processes
utilizing the PeopleSoft Student Administration System, VisualZen
Orientation, Canvas, Qualtrics, Microsoft Access, and other IT
systems. In addition, the Assistant Director is responsible for
providing direction, leadership, management, and oversight for all
aspects of the Orientation Operations area, which includes
front-line customer service interactions, preparation of materials,
communication with campus partners, etc.
Competitive candidates will demonstrate the following skills:
• Experience managing complex higher education computer systems
that support the matriculation process of new students (VisualZen
Orientation, PeopleSoft, etc.).• Advanced knowledge of the
Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
databases.• Ability to train others to utilize university and
Orientation computer systems.• Knowledge of evolving technology
trends and best practices.• Expertise in excellent customer service
skills.• Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational
and planning skills.• Excellent oral and written communication
skills.• Excellent problem-solving skills.• Ability to work
independently with a willingness to collaborate and contribute in a
team environment.• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple
priorities.• Experience supervising professional staff.• A
bachelor's degree or extensive formal training and professional
experience in a technology-related position are preferred.
Pay Range: $43,000-$45,050.
