Job Description:

The Division of Student Affairs at James Madison University invites applications for the position of Associate Director for Multicultural Programs and Leadership in the Center for Multicultural Student Services (CMSS). This position reports to the Director of?CMSS?and specifically supports student success by assisting the department in achieving its mission to provide educational and celebratory programs and services that support an inclusive campus community in which members value diversity within themselves and others. ? Overall Departmental Functions: Assist the Director in designing, implementing and evaluating programs, as well developing and administering educational programs and trainings that promote an understanding of and appreciation for the principles of diversity, access, identity, inclusion and social justice among members of the university community. Assist the Director in the development and implementation of the vision, strategic plan, directly in line with the division of Student Affairs. ? Supervision: Provide supervision and support to the Assistant Director for Multicultural Programs and oversee all areas of the Diversity Education Empowerment Program (D.E.E.P. Impact). Oversee budget expenditures and projections for D.E.E.P. Impact and student leadership programs. Provide supervision and guidance to graduate students in the areas of student leadership and student organization development. ? Multicultural Programs and Leadership: Lead, manage, further develop and implement all components of the student leadership development program for student leaders under the?CMSS?umbrella. Oversee and manage university and departmental policies and compliance requirements for 33 student organizations. Create opportunities for students which foster an inclusive environment for engaged learning and experiences to explore multiple ethnic, and cultural identity groups and perspectives.? Represent department at student organization events, official programs and conferences and in a professional manner. ? Assessment: Lead, manage and oversee all assessment efforts in collaboration with SA Assessment Committee and in partnership with?CARS for multicultural programs and engagement in the areas of student leadership development. Prepare annual reports, coordinate and assist with departmental program reviews and evaluations. ? Departmental Collaboration: Promote an environment of collaboration and provide a broader spectrum and knowledge base in the areas of multicultural awareness, social justice, advocacy and support to all spheres of diversity and identity-based groups at and who are coming into the university. ? Pre-Collegiate Summer Programs (Male Academy or Female Institute): Responsible for all components of the program including recruitment and selection of staff and student participants, assimilation and professional training and development. ? Required Qualifications: ? A master's degree in College Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Leadership or relevant field is required.Minimum 5 years professional work experience with a demonstrated commitment to understanding and working with a diverse student population in a college or university setting is required.Significant professional multicultural programming, leadership and advising experience working with culturally-based student organizations as well as other multiple ethnic and underrepresented identity groups.?Demonstrated experience with risk management education for college and pre-collegiate programs.A demonstrated knowledge of assessment techniques, strategies, and data analysis, as well as supervisory experience.Ability to work as a team member in a high-energy, progressive and diverse department along with proven skills of flexibility and adaptability to change.Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the practice of open and effective communication with students, faculty, staff, parents and community to build and maintain collaborative relationships.Excellent organizational, written, strong public speaking and interpersonal skills are essential.Must be approachable, able to manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.Flexible work schedule with some weekend travel and evening hours required. ?
