        The Office of Disability Services (ODS) at James Madison University is accepting applications for a 12-month, full-time, Administrative and Professional Faculty appointment as the Assistant Director to Disability Services. This position facilitates provisions of accommodations and provides educational opportunities about disability as diversity and promoting principles of access and inclusion. Reporting to the Associate Director for Clinical and Administrative Support in ODS, the Assistant Director also provides direct leadership and coordination related to marketing and publications for communication with ODS constituents. ODS collaborates with the JMU community by providing programs and services that support the university in creating inclusive, equitable environments that value disability, diversity and accessibility.         Duties and Responsibilities
        Direct Student Services

        • Review and evaluate disability documentation for eligibility and accommodation purposes in alignment with .
        • Provide direct student services in compliance with applicable departmental and university policies, as well as relevant legal frameworks (ADA, Section 504, etc.) of such as:

          • Initial intake consultations
          • Registration for services
          • Prompt response to student requests for accommodations
          • Assist with the identification and development of appropriate academic accommodations, auxiliary aids and services.
          • On-going, disability-related support



          • Perform effective collaboration with appropriate university units to facilitate the coordination and timely provision of accommodations and services for students with disabilities.
            Coordinator for Marketing and Communications

            • Develop communication and marketing objectives to complement and support ODS' mission and objectives. Manage allocated program resources effectively.
            • Supervise Marketing and Communications Graduate Assistant.
            • Ensure that all content is created and disseminated in compliance with 1) institutional policies and procedures, and 2) with accessibility/Universal Design best practices and standards ().
            • Ensure that materials and content delivered by the department are effective and timely. This position is responsible for coordinating revisions of departmental print and web publications (e.g., ODS "Y(our) Book", ODS website, etc.).
            • Anticipate, identify and respond to issues related to program functions.
            • Act as liaison to other departments for marketing communications and publication materials. This includes Orientation (One Book), Student Affairs Newsletter, Admissions publications and others as assigned.
              Departmental and General Program Support

              • Provide positive contribution toward and participation in Disability Services mission, vision, values and objectives.
              • Serve as key contributor to the training and development of departmental staff (including regular staff, graduate students and undergraduate students) in cooperation with colleagues in departmental leadership.
              • Assist with and contribute toward departmental and program planning and reporting processes.
              • Provide general program support to Disability Services as assigned. Support may include but is not limited to quality improvement and program development projects, maintenance of confidential student records and departmental assessment efforts.
                Disability Awareness and Advocacy Outreach

                • Provide key leadership and support for departmental programming efforts in cooperation with supervisor and colleagues in departmental leadership.
                • Represent Disability Services to prospective students and their parents.
                • Provide training to faculty and staff, as requested.
                • Represent Disability Services for various local high school transition fairs/college exploration programs, orientation and transition events and fairs, etc.
                • Coordinate efforts with other JMU units in outreach programs.
                  Supporting the JMU Community

                  • Work collaboratively within academic and student affairs to enhance existing services and promote Universal Design and accessibility.
                  • Participate in Student Affairs and JMU initiatives and committee projects, as assigned.
                  • Liaison to specific colleges and/or academic departments, as assigned.





                    Qualifications
                    Requirements

                    • Master's Degree / Bachelor's Degree with 1+ years relevant experience
                    • Experience developing rapport one on one and in groups with students and other stakeholders
                    • Experience managing multiple projects or events simultaneously
                    • Experience promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility
                    • Record of effectively communicating, cultivating, and expanding working relationships with a variety of stakeholders
                    • Ability to master technology applications quickly including higher ed enterprise systems like Peoplesoft, Handshake, StarRez and intermediate word processing and excel skills

                      Preferred

                      • 2+ years relevant experience
                      • Experience with supervision or managing people
