Job Description:

POSITION MISSION: The Director of Claims functions as a leader of the property, auto and casualty personnel. The Director ensures that all claim procedures are compliant with internal guidelines and all state and federal regulations. The position's responsibilities also include commitment to quality customer service, timely and adequate reserving, appropriate investigation and disposition of claims, and employee development.

  • Direct the day-to-day operation of the Personal and Commercial Lines Claims Personnel
  • Participate in the interviewing, hiring, and training of future claims staff.
  • Supervisory responsibility of the Property, Auto and Casualty Claim Supervisors and SIU
  • Provide supervision and direction to claims personnel for proper coverage interpretation, claim investigation and loss evaluation.
  • Ensure that proper reserving, strategy, and settlement techniques are being used.
  • Complete and conduct performance evaluations and manage disciplinary matters
  • Assist in the development of strategic goals, objectives, and annual budget for the Claims Department
  • Contribute to creating, reviewing, and revising internal guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with Claims Service Guidelines and Unfair Claims Practices Laws and Procedures in each state
  • Perform necessary review and audit of work performed by internal staff and external vendors
  • Effectively manage all loss adjustment expenses
  • Works closely with all units of the organization in support of their objectives. Keep the VP of Claims apprised of claims issues that need to be communicated to the Segment Leaders
  • Develop presentations that summarize Claims processes and highlights our overall value proposition
  • Research value added services that increase our ultimate value to our customers
  • Read, analyze, and interpret new coverage forms, business periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations
  • Support the corporate culture and create a positive work environment
  • Continually updates process and procedure documentation as regulations and business needs evolve

    • Thorough knowledge of claims operations to include adjusting, LAE, customer experience, subrogation, salvage, and payment processes
    • Strategic planning, goal setting, and budgeting
    • Aware of the company cultural direction and supports the company's culture and values
    • Understands the management of staff at all levels
    • Exhibits ability to promptly identify critical issues, analyze facts, and make decisive and sound decisions to resolve issues
    • Possesses a solid knowledge of the company's vision, mission, and strategic plans and is committed to their achievement. Maintains a high level of knowledge of all department activity and is innovative in seeking effective ways to address issues
    • Shows personal integrity, inspires trust, and sets a positive example through a strong work ethic, commitment, and enthusiasm
    • Stays aware of changes in the external environment and adjusts internal practices as needed.
    • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge and is a proficient user of all Microsoft Office applications and programs
    • Continuously advances own understanding of property/casualty insurance claims best practices
      QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Minimum 10 years claims experience
      • Previously served as a Claims Manager with Personal and Commercial Lines experience
      • Extensive knowledge and understanding of litigation process
      • Proven results in both Vendor Management and Expense Management
      • Effective communicator through written, oral, and electronic formats with ability to convey complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences
      • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills including ability to develop consensus among decision makers
      • Demonstrates ethical work manner in dealing with confidential information
      • Valid driver's license

        • Position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office and mobile equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers
        • Position may require traveling to agent offices, attending both internal and external meetings, attending conferences and other training events
