hire will consist of five student-facing positions. Positions hired
in this cohort will be housed within the Office of Residence
Life/Conference Services, the University Career Center, and Office
of Orientation and Transition, and Student Life. You will have the

The Office of Residence Life at James Madison University is
accepting applications for a Coordinator of Student Learning
Initiatives. This person would be part of the Residence Life staff
team that serves 6700 residential students on a campus that is
continuing to grow. We focus on making the students residential
experience one filled with opportunities to engage and learn about
themselves and others. We are a close-knit department with just
over 30 full-time staff members and over 200 student staff
Each position will be selected through an innovative practice
called cohort hire. The search committee hiring for this position
will be selecting candidates for four other positions. If you would

Duties and Responsibilities
#1 Leadership and Supervision: Lead all recruitment, selection,
training, and engagement of the student leadership team responsible
for staffing the Resource Center including, eight to ten (8-10)
Program Advisers (PAs) and one (1) graduate assistant (GA).
Responsible for PA supervision duties including, scheduling,
payroll, leadership development, regular staff meetings, and
evaluation. Responsible for all GA supervision and evaluation.
#2 Equity and Inclusion: Contribute to the JMU Student Affairs
equity and inclusion value by confronting systems of oppression by
designing intentional and inclusive practices, policies, and
programs in pursuit of a socially just world.
#3 Student Staff and Resident Engagement: Coordinate and implement
any academic support programs (currently: Academic Mentor Program
and Academic Support Instruction). Recruit, hire, train, and
supervise any student leaders associated with these programs.
Assist with the planning and implementation of departmental events
and serve as a liaison for any co-sponsored programming or events
with other university departments and stakeholders.
#4 Resource Management: Oversee administrative and operational
functions of the Resource Center including, creating, maintaining
and communicating Resource Center hours; ensuring Resource Center
is staffed when open; ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for
all students using the Resource Center; establishing a system for
inventory and ordering of Resource Center materials.
#5 Support the Curricular Approach for Student Learning: Assist
with the advancement and growth of the Residence Life curricular
approach model with efforts to increase student engagement and
residential learning. Serve on the Curricular Approach Team with
other Residence Life staff members.
#6 Assessment: Provide leadership for the assessment of the
Resource Center's services, the PA student leadership role, and any
current academic intervention programming.
#7 Crisis Management: Participate in the secondary on-call rotation
for residential campus one (1) to two (2) times per semester.
#8 Professional Development: Accumulate a minimum of 20 hours of
professional development during each performance evaluation period.
Obtain hours by attending university, divisional, and department
training. Attend conferences, get a certification, or other
job-related training. Use professional development opportunities to
stay relevant to trends and best practices.
Successful candidates will possess the ability to meet the
functional needs of the home department and engage in work
holistically to help JMU become an institution where every student
has the opportunity to thrive. JMU prioritizes the staff experience

regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such
as: crime prevention, the university police law enforcement
authority, crime reporting policies, disciplinary procedures,
protocols for the immediate notification of students and staff upon
confirmation of a significant emergency on campus and other matters
of importance related to security and safety. The report includes
